MTD - Tax calculation

Your Tax Calculation

What is this?

Your digital tax software gives you a view of your current tax position based on the information recorded so far. This is available through the Calculation section of your MTD submission and is for reference purposes — you do not need to take any action here.

Where to find your tax calculation

  1. Go to Tax Submission from the left-hand menu.

  2. Select the current MTD tax year.

  3. Expand the business source and select view on Income & Expenses.

  4. From the MTD Submission Overview, select Calculation from the left-hand menu.

What you will see

The calculation page has two views which you can switch between:

Current Calculation

This shows a detailed breakdown of your tax position based on the income and expenses recorded to date. It includes figures such as:

  • Income Tax

  • National Insurance Contributions (NICS)

  • Total tax deducted

  • Student loan repayments (if applicable)

  • Capital Gains Tax (if applicable)

  • Total Income Tax, NICS and CGT due

End of Year Estimate

This gives you an estimate of what your final tax position may look like at the end of the tax year, based on the figures submitted so far. This is a projection only and will change as more information is added throughout the year.

The end of year estimate is not your final tax bill. It is based on the information available at the time and will be updated as your accounting firm adds further details to your return.

Using the arrows at the top you can also see your Tax Return preparation for the yearly submission that will be submitted.

Can I make changes here?

The calculation is read-only. The figures shown are generated automatically from your record keeping and quarterly submissions. If anything looks incorrect or you have questions about the figures, contact your accounting firm.

Need help?

If you have any questions about your tax calculation or the figures shown, speak to your accounting firm. They will be able to explain your position and advise on any next steps.
